"THERMAE 4.O". New algorithms for health care, sustainable development and tourism, will be the focus of the scientific meeting to be held at BW Premier Batumi Hotel (Georgia) October 30th- November 4th, 2018.

Foto del Prof. Umberto Solimene President FemtecThe World Federation of Hydrotherapy and Climatotherapy (FEMTEC) will hold its 71th General Assembly and International Scientific Congress  on Batumi (Adjara) in the Republic of Georgia, a country of ancient cultural and historical traditions, where hydrotherapy has a well established and deep-rooted scientific background.

The location was selected for logistic reasons, but also in order to introduce a land that is unique in terms of environmental, cultural, and thermal resources, integrated into an unusual geography. The official  venue of the Conference will be the  Best Western Premier Batumi Hotel.

Adjara is an historical, geographic, and political-administrative region of Georgia. Located in the country's south-western, Adjara lies on the coast of the Black Sea near the foot of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains, north of Turkey.

In the presentation of the Congress program, the President of FEMTEC, Prof. Umberto Solimene, remember how the three most important industrial revolutions have drastically changed the global economy and the social environment.

"Now we are at the beginning of the fourth industrial revolution (4.0): a theme that has focused on the World Economic Forums with the well-known report Dominate the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Experts and observers are trying to guess how economic activities and professional skills will change.  Emerging web technologies, digital appliances, and flexible work are already changing the relation between man and his environment. Many new jobs will be created, many others will disappear: a net negative balance of over 5 million jobs is predicted for Europe alone.

If this is the outlook for industry, one may wonder whether there can be a THERMAE 4.0 and, if so, which actions and solutions can be envisaged. Facing this upcoming situation, which future can we expect for the Thermae, their role in national health care systems.

The challenge will be to reconcile the new global socioeconomic and environmental conditions with the unique specificities of the thermal tradition".

Ever since its foundation 81 years ago, FEMTEC  has been putting forward innovative subjects for discussion and practical solutions.

Considering the theme of the Congress: “THERMAE 4.O”.  New algorithms for health care, sustainable development and tourism,  the organization has made a program to develop the following topics:

  • Structure and organization of national and international thermal systems
  • Economic and social strategies and policies for thermalism

Batumi, the "Pearl of the Black Sea", as it is usually called, is the administrative center of Adjara. European architects undertook numerous projects in Batumi at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, Batumi is still a place of numerous architectural innovations.

In addition, modern Batumi is a cultural centre in Georgia hosting numerous international festivals with participation of famous musicians and artists.

Adjara is home to the picturesque beaches of Batumi, Kvariati, Sarpi, Gonio, Tsikhisdziri, Mtsvane Kontskhi (Cape Verde) and Kobuleti. During the summer, the beaches are usually full of tourists who enjoy their vacations. Also visitors to Adjara especially admire and unchanged nature of the region and it is particularly interesting for ecological tourists.

It is important to note that in 2012 American Academy of Hospitality Sciences nominated Batumi as the best tourist destination of the year.

The Congress provides for a rich cultural agenda including visits to thermal centres (Tzkaltubo, Kokotauri), the Batumi Botanic Centre, Natural Caves, etc.
