CUBA WILL CHAIR THE 67 WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY

Thousands of Cuban doctors and other medical staff are currently performing services in 60 countries as part of cooperation missions.

día mundial de la saludCuba will chair this year the 67th World Health Assembly , in recognition of the achievements of the revolution in this field and its role in the international arena as stated in Geneva Dr. Antonio Gonzalez, who is head of international agencies of the Ministry of Public Health.

Cuba 's participation in the World Health Organization (WHO) is greatly recognized throughout the world as well as their medical cooperation missions in other countries. Scheduled from 19 to 24 May 2014 , the Assembly is the forum through which the (WHO ) is governed by its member states.

Thousands of Cuban doctors and other medical staff are currently performing services in 60 countries as part of cooperation missions .

Dr. Gonzalez attended the meeting in Geneva the 134 Executive Directorate of the WHO with the presence of 34 countries worldwide , including six of America.

He recalled the role of WHO , the maximun health agency belonging to the United Nations that brings together 197 countries , and is responsible for managing policies to prevent and combat major health problems globally.

The meeting discussed various issues such as a program for the eradication of tuberculosis in 2025 and another to eliminate polio and the proposed targets for the period after 2015. Besides Nutrition of children breastfed and small childrens, hepatitis, early initiative vaccines were also discussed .

He also stressed that each region has its own peculiarities . Africa for example is one of the regions with the highest prevalence of infectious diseases such as malaria , tetanus and polio. But even in Africa and elsewhere , chronic non-communicable diseases are one of the issues of greatest concern because they cause major problems.

In this regard, he referred to cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes which have increased significantly worldwide. The objective is to develop a prevention mechanism to deal with them.

Finally said that the most important thing is to avoid the causes that lead to these diseases, so it is necessary to take preventive measures such as healthy diet, exercise, avoiding nicotine poison. "We have to make great efforts to teach healthy habits to the population because the idea is not just to stay alive but to have quality of life.”
