TURKEY IZMIR WITH THE PROJECT "HEALTH FOR ALL" CANDIDATE FOR THE WORLD EXPO 2020

The health history, which began about 2,400 years ago around the city, is moving toward a new goal: the EXPO 2020. On 27 November 2013 the headquarters
 will be designate in a vote in BIE, Paris.

For the first time in the history of the World Expo is proposed a project based on the theme of health at EXPO 2020. When choosing the theme of health for all, Izmir, the city of Hippocrates and Galen, the birthplace of medicine, aims to offer concrete responses  to the big challenges of public health that the world faces, such as access more possible comprehensive to health coverage, access to care and drinking water, combating malnutrition, aging...

Thus, among the four remaining candidate cities , Izmir presented as the only city to use the same project to share progress , especially in health in developing countries.

With real experience in matters of health , as evidenced by the progress made in Turkey for 10 years ( the accessibility to health services increased from 70 % to 97 % between 2000 and 2010 , the increase in life expectancy , 74, three years in 2010 against 71.4 in 2001), Izmir also had the unconditional support of a whole people , and the mobilization of its government.

Thus, Egemen Badyt , Turkish Minister for EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator for Turkey Cevdet Yilmaz , and Turkish Development Minister , Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni met with the Secretary General of the ACP (Africa , Caribbean and Pacific ) and the ambassadors CPA member countries represented in the International Exhibitions Bureau , to raise awareness , through the application of the city of Izmir to host the World Expo 2020 , the theme of " Health for All".

On this occasion, Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni did stress the importance of health, especially in view of the post-2015 development agenda (successor of the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations, more than half of which related to health) focusing  particularly on the issue it represents for African, Caribbean and Pacific. The Secretary-General has given a welcome initiative  to Izmir and want to do, for the first time, the issue of Health Expo, which aims to provide concrete answers to the great problems of public health that the world faces today, especially the developing countries (including, prevent and combat epidemics and diseases worldwide, access to health services and safe drinking water, combating malnutrition...).

Cevdet Yilmaz , Turkish Development Minister welcomed the relations between Turkey and the ACP countries in recent years. He recalled the increasing participation of the Turkish Agency for International Development and International Cooperation ( TIKA ) in African countries , which testifies to the willingness of Turkey to build sustainable political and economic relations with all these countries . Expresses the hope that the EXPO 2020 Izmir is the engine of progress to share with developing countries.

Finally , Egemen Badyt reiterated the willingness of the Turkish government to benefit , through this application, the developing countries of the spectacular advances in health, and provide $ 200 million to nearly 50 developing countries in the form of goods and services. This fund helps to finance part of the construction of houses, training of teams, the organization of national conferences and other activities. Moreover, the Executive Committee of the Expo 2020 will create a platform for international cooperation in order to contribute to the objectives of sustainable development of recipient countries.

"New Routes to a Better World / Health for All"
Izmir has designated an area of 276 hectares in Inciralti as the fairgrounds. One of Europe's largest urban recreational areas will be built here and a haven created to serve residents when the EXPO ends.
The project aims to improve the quality of life in the area and is based on the principles of sustainability and ecology. Preserving nature plays an important role in the design since many trees surround the lagoon and numerous species of birds like  flamingos live in the area. The production of solar energy would and geothermal energy would also helps contribute to the site requirements.

Next November 27th, 2013 delegates from around the world will vote in Paris at the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) General Assembly to decide where the EXPO 2020 will. The Anglo-Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid will be making the presentation in person.It has been designed a stunning lagoon environment where sky, sea and earth come together to improve the local environment and to ensure that  when Izmir EXPO 2020 ends, the city of Izmir and the sea around remaiin cleaner than before. | Manifiesto "Health for All" (pdf) |
