ECEBAT, FIRST EUROPEAN CONFERENCE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AQUATIC THERAPY IN IZMIR


Elul Dokuz University in Izmir, Turkey, is promoting this initiative in cooperation with Thermal Balçova. Statements exclusively to TERMAS WORLD AGENCY regarding the development of this first experience to be held during 21 to 23 March 2013.

EU experts from 20 countries will gather in Balçova Thermal Hotel, designated scientific venue in order to share knowledge and exchange experience in aquatic therapy along the lines of clinical evidence.

Johan Lambeck, President of the Scientific and Baris Gürpinar, President of the Organizing Committee, will welcome to this first European conference to all professionals and specialists from different countries that are invited not only to participate but to enjoy the scientific program Conference, supported by the cultural spirit of Izmir.

ECEBAT 2013
"The 1st European Conference on Evidence Based Aquatic Therapy (ECEBAT) has been initiated by the Doküz Elul University in Izmir, Turkey. It will be organized in cooperation with Balçova SPA, where actually the pre-conference workshops and teh conference itself will take place (www.balcovatermal.com).

The conference will try to add a new stepping stone to the development of aquatic therapy, continuing a long European tradition of clinical practice, development of methods and networking in research. It is focused on the integration of research, patient centered information and treatment concepts into a comprehensive model of aquatic therapy.

At this moment (January 2013) we can offer 25 oral presentations, 10 keynote lectures, 25 posters, 3 panels and 4 pre-conference workshops.

Oral presentations and posters will cover the majority of health problems with focus on neurology, pediatrics and musculoskeletal diseases. The keynotes will highlight the state of the art of aquatic therapy in topics varying from. Various Spanish oral presentations and posters have been submitted and accepted. Especially the Universidad Complutense will present itself with interesting topics in balneology.

Panels will be dedicated to health tourism in Turkey, post-graduate education for aquatic professionals and health benefits of immersion and aquatic activity. This last panel will present the preliminary results of a narrative review, which was conducted for the World Health Organization.

The pre-conference workshops in Balçova spa will be supportive to the scientific programme, implementing some of the research being presented. Topics will be: aquatic massed practice in neurology (supported by the main sponsor EWAC, (www.ewac.nl ), Clinical Ai Chi to challenge balance in fall prevention, facilitation of the use of the upper extremities and the trunk in pediatrics and new insights in muscular use in chain-specific strengthening of the Bad Ragaz Ring Method.

We will be able to welcome delegates from at least 20 countries and we hope that ECEBAT 2013 will be a platform for further development of aquatic therapy in Europe and elsewhere ".
