Prof. Dr. Pedro Cantista President of I.S.M.H.

He graduated in Medicine in the University of Oporto on July 31, 1979.
He do practical trainig in several national and international medical centers among others Mayo Clinic ( Rochester – Minnesota, USA ).
He is Physiatrist doctor of the Hospital General of San Antonio.
Specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the Orden de los Médicos and certified by the "European Board" in this speciality.

He has obtained competences in Medical Hydrology and Pain Medicine from Orden dos Médicos, working as well intensively in the area of Sports Medicine.
He IS acting as coordinator of the Working Group of the Hospital / Centro de Rehabilitation del Norte. He is assistant professor of the ICBAS at the Oporto University, responsible for the subject of Hydrology Clinic 6th course of Medical Faculty at the University. He also teaches Ortophysiatric subject.
Currently is completing his PhD in the speciality of Medical Hydrology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

Author of an important number of national and international publications, many of them in cataloged books and magazines and imparted hundreds of scientific lectures. He received several scientific awards throughout his career being also a member of the jury in some others.
He was responsible for the television program MFR Medicine. He was president of the Portuguese Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (MFR) and the Portuguese Committee of the Decada del Hueso y de la Articulacion 2000-2010.
Is member of the of the European Society of MFR. He was the first General Secretary, shortly after the founding of this society.

He was the last Vice-President for Europe of the World Society for the MFR (ISPRM).
He is currently President of the Portuguese Society of Medical Hydrology, President of the European Section of the International Society of Medical Hydrology (ISMH) and was the first responsible for the Group of Medical Balneology of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).
He is a member of numerous other scientific societies:Member of Honor of the French Society of Medical Hydrology.
Member of several scientific societies and national and international medical magazines.
He was President of the 36th World Congress of Medical Hydrology, held in Porto from 25 to 28 June 2008.
He is Medical Director of Termas de San Jorge and Termas do Luso.
He has extensive experience as Medical Adviser and has contribute to many Hospital projects, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Services, SPA centers, gyms, swimming pools, health centers, Wellness units (being one of the most importance that of the Estadio da Luz / S.L Benfica), thalassotherapy centers.
