The ECEBAT program has included a pre-conference workshops on Balcova Thermal Hotel, home to bring together scientific experts and professionals from EU universities.

Conferencia ECEBAT y Balcova ThermalThe Turkish city of Izmir will host ECEBAT, the 1st European Conference on Aquatic Terapy Based on Evidence, to be held during days 21 to 23 March 2013.

EU experts and professionals from universities in Belgium, Hungary, Spain, Germany, Finland, Switzerland and the city of Washington as wel from Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir will meet at the BalcovaThermal Hotel, to share knowledge and exchange experiences on water therapy according to the lines of clinical evidence.

In this first European Conference is expected to get the definition of the aquatic therapy following the criteria used by the network of aquatic physical therapy of the World Conference of Physiotheray, according to the presentation program.

"Aquatic Therapy is a programme, using mechanical, thermal and chemical characteristics of water during partial or complete immersion, in combination with the effects of movement. It evokes short-term and long-term adaptational mechanisms of a person with a deranged biological system. The use of environment-related constraints to create psycho-biological effects should improve function, activities, participation and quality of life. Aquatic therapy is carried out by staff with appropriate knowledge and competence, ideally in a purpose built pool".

Also referred to clinical practice must be justified through the application of research results in combination with professional expertise and accounting for the patient's preferences. These are the cornerstones of evidence based clinical practice. Although practice has traditionally been founded on clinical expertise, aquatic therapy research has increased enormously and in general supports the health effects of aquatic therapy in various patient groups.

Finely highlight that this conference will try to add a new stepping stone to the development of aquatic therapy, continuing a long European tradition of clinical practice, development of methods and networking in research.

The organization has designed a scientific program with lectures, short presentations and sessions of oral communications and posters.
The deadline for abstracts submission is scheduled for October 1, 2012.

Previously is included a program of pre-conference with workshops on the Balcova Thermal Hotel and a post-conference visit to Pamukkale ("cotton castle" in Turkish) a natural area of hot springs with curative properties for skin being at the same time a famous tourist attraction. It has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO since 1988.

Johan Lambeck, President of the Scientific and Baris Gürpinar, President of the Organizing Committee, will welcome to this first European conference to all professionals and specialists from different countries that are invited not only to participate but to enjoy the scientific program Conference, supported by the cultural spirit of Izmir.
