PRESENTED THE VADEMECUM II OF THE SPANISH MINERAL WATERS

A work of great value to know the characteristics of the most important spas.

Portada Vademecum IIThe "Handbook II of mineral-medicinal waters of Spain" is a new research work entirely new. It has been carried out between 2007 and 2009 and focuses on the rigorous study and analysis of physic and chemical Spanish mineral waters.

The main value of this book is its homogeneity, both in the techniques of taking and storing samples as in the specific analisys performed. Therefore, it is a work of great utility to know the characteristics of the major spanish resorts.

The first part includes the analytical results of one hundred and six Spanish mineral waters, whose springs are located in ninety-three spas. A card index has been created traveling around the resorts of the autonomous regions. As additional data, has been added the bibliography needed to expand the information offered in each case.

The second part provides a classification of spas according to various parameters (temperature, global mineralization, mineralizing components, hardness).

The third part is illustrated with maps, in which we can locate geographic points where the are spas and their relevant characteristics.

Finally, as a culmination, it also offers a directory of doctors in Spanish spas.

The Vademecum has been carried out by Prof. Dr. Francisco Maraver Eyzaguirre, Director of the Professional School of Medical Hydrology and hydrotherapy, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Prof. Dr. Francisco Castro Armijo, Assistant Director of the Professional School of Medical Hydrology.

The book "Vademecum II of Spanih mineral waters" is the result of an specific agreement developed under the Framework Agreement between the UCM (Professional School of Medical Hydrology and hydrotherapy) and the National Association of Spas (ANBAL). Furthermore, as the authors remind in the presentation, the collaboration of the staff of the Chair of Medical Hydrology of Faculty of Medicine of the university and the collaboration of well renowned professionals from the Instituto Geologico y Minero of Spain, The Grupo Hervideros of Cofrentes, University of La Laguna, Thalasia Center and the University of Cantabria.
