The thermal power of Budapest. Route for their Real Spas

The experience of the Healthy Route through the Real Spas has been of interest to our friends from Italy and Rumania and they don't discard to carry out this refreshing idea in its countries. The representatives from Belgium and United Kingdom say good bye to return now to their respective countries and the group, now reduced, get ready to continue the Route, now more lúdic, through the capital of the real thermal baths.

If yesterday we met the medieval civil city of Buda, pleasant and welcoming as a small village, today we finish going through the plain, Pest, the city of the freedom, and the vitality, with their offices, magnificent houses and mundane places. Pest is the present. Here one tries to carry out their dreams and to triumph. In this part there are most of the theaters, cinemas and clubs, many restaurants, coffee shop and dazzling shops to buy anything.

We come close to one of the buildings more emblemátic of the city and one of those that more proudly show itself in front of the Danube: The Parliament that celebrates their centennial. And contemplating so much beauty we thinks: a country that is able to build something so beautiful and to express its power through such monumentality, it deserves the respect and consideration as a great nation of Europe without a doubt.

A misture of eclectic style, Neogótico, Renaissance and Baroque is one of the biggest buildings in the world that works as parliament. It is 260 meters long, it occupies a surface 17.700 square meters and has almost has 700 rooms. Under the dome keeps the Sacred Hungarian Crown, with the characteristic bent cross, one of the oldest from Europe.

Apparently the Parliament's enormous dome has only a rival: that of San Esteban's Basilica, the biggest church in the city from whose height 96 meters one can enjoy a superb panorama. We have occasion to contemplate the relic of the right hand of San Esteban, founder of Hungary.

We are again in the heart of Pest to admire the Palace of the Hungarian National Opera of Renaissance Italian style and one of the most important buildings of Andrássy út. The visit is unavoidable and not only due to its weekly programming, but to admire the majestic stairway and palace rooms projected by the great architect Miklos Ybl closely.

Besides the grandeur of the exterior, the inside is as well impressive: with an excellent acoustic and its rich decoration, the theater attracts the big singers, dancers and orchestra's directors of the world.

This area and surroundings are the center of the cultural and musical animation of Budapest. The Opera, the Theater of the Operetta and the Academy of Music comprises the most elegant places, but one can also choose among numerous modern local with live music.

In the Budapest Festival Center one can see the programming of the Festival of Autumn. It is the best convocation to return to the Hungarian capital. Besides organizing an appointment with the music of vienesse and imperial influence that dazzles during the musical evenings of the THeater of Opera. The Academy of Music, Franz Liszt, (Liszt Ferenc tér) includes in their weekly program renowned orchestras and the access to the morning rehearsals is free.

Due to their vicinity, we come to visit the old Jewish neighborhood where is the impressive building of the Synagogue.

The whole group surrenders to its attractiveness as a building where there is a mix of Byzantine and Moorish elements. It has capacity for 3.000 people and it is the biggest of Europe and the second of the world.

Due to being outside of the schedule for the public, we don't have access to see their interior. Our Russian colleague regrets this circumstance. The whole group really feels the same.

Walking across of some of the narrow streets and through of small details of some few buildings, we discover the old medieval city that was Pest. Today it possesses the spark and the liveliness of Paris. To check it, nothing better than taking the tram number 2 that transport us toward the lively pedestrian precints where the youths of the city meet, Vörösmarty tér, place of the itinerant artists appointment that reminds me the atmosphere of Montmartre.

In this square, authentic heart of Pest, they are two of the most crowded coffee-shops: the Gerbeaud been founded in 1858, with their exquisite confectionery of imperial taste and the Szolnay Kávéház, in the second floor of the Béke Hotel. Here they offer us delicious small cookies and tea in plates of porcelain of the famous manufacturer Herend Porcelán Üzlet.

The whole group agree to walk along of the wide and elegant streets of this part of Pest that remember the boulevards of Paris. Finally we arrive to the great commercial street, the well-known Vaci út, full of boutiques, coffee-shop, restaurants and department stores. It is the temptation. The uncontrollable desire of taking not only the single relaxing experiences as memory of this attractive Thermal Route. We want something more.

We need our host's advice. What to choose? The vests and attires of Tangó, the creative and cheerful handmade embroideries of Kalocsa, the jewels inspired by models of Reich Tamás's XIX century or tea sets of Herend Porcelán Üzlet. Options for all classes of preferences that allow us to buy and take to home some tipical detail of this central european country.
