The first scientific bibliography on the application of the mineral waters in Odontology. has been already elaborated by the S.F.T.T.S.B.D.
The French Society of Thermalism and Thalassotherapy for the Oral and Dental Health has elaborated a complete bibliography on the oral - dental crenotherapy in France. Specialists in Odontology of the main french universities, have participated in the documental content of the first “Vademécum” on mineral waters to prevent mouth and teeth illnesses.
The S.F.T.T.S.B.D. has gathered a bibliographical fund, collecting a total of 238 scientific articles and studies of clinical and medical research that allows to know the benefits of the thermal water therapeutic action and its favorable effect in the treatment of the A.M.B. (Buco-lingual Affections of the Mucous and parodontopatíes).
Considered as the most valuable contribution in the study of the oral thermalism in France, this “Vademécum “ includes 46 doctoral thesis, being 15 of those carried out in the University of Bordeaux; 12, in Toulouse; 5, Paris; 4 in the Universities of Nantes and Reins; 3 in Montrouge and 1 doctoral thesis, in each one of the Universities of Strasbourg, Montpellier and New York.
Precisely is the University of New York, where Dr. B. Broustine, of the thermal station of Vichy, and secretary of the S.F.T.T.S.B.D., he carried out his doctoral thesis of Implantology. The investigation is entitled “Irrigation et hydrothérapie in maintenance implantaire”, and it was presented in 1997.
Also six doctoral thesis on Thalassotherapy are collected. One of the authors, Dr. Jean Yves Guedes carried out his investigation on the marine water and the therapeutic action in the oral ecosystem. His thesis the “ Thalasotherapy in Therapeutique buccale“ was carried out in the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the University of Nantes, in 1987. At the present time Dr. Guedes is the president of the Commission of Thalassotherapy of S.F.T.T.S.B.D.
The Bibliography dedicated to the research on the buco-dental crenotherapy represents important scientific contributions through articles and communications published in diverse magazines of Odontology and in The Presse Thermale et Climatique.
Among them it is necessary to highlight the activity carried out by the Dr. Philippe Vergnes, dental surgeon and President of the S.F.T.T.S.B.D. through agreements of collaboratión with Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Univ. of Toulouse and Bourdeaux, interested in the investigation of the mineral waters and a wide publication of works on the oral-dental thermalism in Castéra - Verduzan. Dr. Vergnes is a fundacional member of the TERMAS WORLD team.
CASTÉRA- VERDUZAN
The thermal station of Castéra–Verduzan, considered as a reference to the oral-dental crenotherapy of France due to the therapeutic value of the mineral waters, having generated 15 Doctoral Thesis. The first of them, in 1934 by Dr. M. Lamarque, that carried out his Doctoral Thesis of Medicine based in “The mineral waters of Castéra - Verduzan (Gers).
Also to highlight that so early as in the year 1841, M. Bazin, was interested in the characteristics of this thermal waters. He wrote “Observatión sur les eaux minérales sulfureuses et ferrugineuses de Castéra - Verduzan“ (Gers), article that was published in the Printing and Bookstore of L.A. Brun, in Auch.
At the present the numerous research works on the thermal waters of Castera-Verduzán and the research lines carried out by multidisciplinary groups of dental surgeons of French universities, show the benefits of the therapeutic action of the sulphurous waters and how their effects are very favorable in the treatment of the oral-dental illnesses in general, and of the parodontopatíes, in particular.
We have to remember that the documental fund of the S.F.T.T.S.B.D is classified by alphabetical order. Their authors, prestigious surgeons specialized in Odontology and well-known university professors contribute information in medical and clinical research on the pathologies of the mouth and teeth through the crenotherapy. The results constitute a valuable consultation bibliography for the new generations.
30 ANNIVERSARY
The French Society of Thermalism and Thalassotherapy for the Oral Dental Health participated in the annual Congress of G.S.S.O.S. days 1 and 2 of June in Rouen, and next will be the celebration of its General Assembly where the preparations for the commemorative acts of the 30 anniversary were designed.
It was in 1978, when some 15 dental surgeons and odontólogits, with Paul Couturier at the head, created the French Society of Thermalism and Thalassotherapy for the Oral Dental Health. in Aix–les –Bains, In this time, the orientation “odontology” it was united to the “dermatology.”
In 1986, the Odontology becomes detached from this speciality and is positioned inside the therapeutic orientations, under the name of A.M.B. The thermal cure for the AMB must be prescribed, according to a minesterial decision of 13 de march 1986, by a medicine Dr. or by a dental surgeon.
Since then, eleven from 105 French thermal stations, are authorized for AMB (Oral-dental affections of the mucous and parodontopatias): Aix-they-Bains, Marlioz (Savoie), Avène (Hérault), The Bourboule (Puy –de - Dôme), Castéra - Verduzan (Gers), Them Fumades (Gard), Moligt (Pyrénées-oriental), Rochefort-south-Mer (Charente - Martime), The-Roche-Posay (Vienne), Saint-Christau (Pyrénées Atlantiques), Saint –Gervais (Haute-Savoie), Uriege (Isère).
Soon after of the creation, Professor Boulangé suggested to the Society to become part as member of the I.S.M.H. (International Society of Medical Hidrology), after having participated a delegation in the ISMH Congress.
In 1989, the Society achieved the member qualification for GSSOS (Group of Scientific Societies of Odonto-Stomatology) participating in all their annual congresses. Since 2003, coinciding with the first World Congress of Thalassotherapy, in Agadir, Morocco, the Society became founder member of the World Federation of Thalassotherapy.
The Publisher of TermasWorld.com, Mayte Suárez Santos, was designated responsible for Communication of the French Society of Thermalism and Thalassotherapy for the Oral Dental Health, during the General Assembly that took place on May 2006, coinciding with the Congress of the scientific society, in the Faculty of Odontology of Reims University.
The S.F.T.T.S.B.D. has among its objectives, to gather that ones interested in the crenotherapy and to sensitize the dental surgeons in the thermalism, for this reason is in contact with the National Federation of Dental Surgeons, dental unions, Faculties of Dental Surgery and Scientific Societies.
