BALNEOTHERAPY AND OBESITY IN ECO 2007

Post Congres Meeting organized by Hugarian Society of Balneotherapy.
The role of the Balneotherapy in the prevention and treatment of the obesity will be object of study in a Post European Congress Meeting on Obesity ( ECO 2007) that will take place from 26 to 27 april in the Hotel Karos- SPA in the city of Zalakaros. The opening will be on 25 april in charge of Professor Dr. Tamas Bender, President of Hungarian Society of Balneotherapy.
The scientific meeting organized by the Hungarian Society of Balneotherapy in collaboration with the Hugarian Society for the Study of Obesity whose chairman is Prof. Dr. Laszlo Halmy, will carry out five workshop studying subject related to the usefulness of the medinal water in the treatment of the obesity, balneotherapy and hydropinic cures, therapeutic possibilities of the hydrotherapy in the childhood obesity, the importance of the underwater exercices such as the acquafitness and the weigh keeping in obese patients, suffering from osteoarthritis.
The Scientific Organizing Committee whose chairman is Prof. Dr. Laszlo Halmy, will be composed by the following members.Geza Balint, Pedro Cantista, Paul Gher, Christof Gutenbruner, Eszter Halmy, M. Zeki Karagulle, Fernc Kovacs and Júlia Süveges .
We have to remember that in some thermal establishment he balneotherapy forms part of a complex scheme for obesity treatment, utilizing slimimng techniques whose metods of control are under supervision of specialized doctors.
In this respect, Professor Pedro Cantista will presents the obesity program carried out in the spa Termas de San Jorge, ( Portugal ) because the balneotherapy is considered a complementary process of the different techniques aimed to get weight controlled.
On the other hand the thermal springs are an important contribution in the overweigh treatment and from that arise the importance of getting the contribution of the results obtained in the hydropinic cures carried out in Karlovy Vary.
On 27 April a Postgrade course will take place, directed to hungarian specialist and chairmed by the Drs. Fernc Kovacs and Gyirgy Kangfi from the Hungarian Society for Study of the Obesity.
The Post Congress ECO 2007 Meeting about Balneotherapy in the Treatment of the Obesity, will celebrate its scientific workshops in a beautiful and quiet place: Zalakaros. The tiniest city in southwest Hungary that obtained recognition as Thermal Villa on 1967, when a oil prospect drilling resulted in a nearly 96ºC thermal coming up from at 1000 mts depth.
These circumstance provided the basis of the re-introduction of the ancient roman Baths that once flourished in Pannonia. The certified medical water proved effective in the treatment of chronic arthritis, dental and rheumatic diseases and before and after orthpedic surgeries.
ECO 2007
The obesity poses one of the greatest public health challenges for the 21 century, with alarming trends in diferent parts of the world including Europe.
According to Prof. Dr. Lászlo Halmy, Chairman of ECO 2007, “ the prevalence of adults obesity has risen tree-fold in many european countries since 1980 and this epidemic is stretching at high rates in childrens.
He also manifest that “the treatment of Obesity and its related disorders is now in the forefront of Government and Public Healh all over Europe there is an increasing concern within European Union and the WHO office for Europe about Obesity and relates diseases such as Diabetes Type 2, Hypertension, Cardio diseases and Cardiometabolic Risk and Prevention.”
Obesity will be a major political issued in Europe in 2007 and the 15th European Congress on obesity will provide an essential platform for discussion in the latest scientific achievements in this field. The International Scientific Committee whose chairman is Profesor Wim Sarishas developed an oustanding scientific program which will study key issues regarding obesity and treatment.
The 15th European Congress on Obesity (ECO 2007) will take place in Budapest from 22 to 25 April 2007. Is organized by the Hungarian Society for the Study of Obesity (HSSO) and the European Association for the Study of Obesity(EASO).
