THE THERMAL AND CLIMATIC ASSOCIATION OF GERS RENEWS THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Thermal and Climatic Association of the Gers representing the watering stations of Barbotán-Les Thermes, Castera-Verduzán and Lectoure renews its board of directors after the general assembly where was stated the importance of the thermalism for the tourist and economic development of the county located in southwest France.

Gathered in Auch, capital of Gascuña and social headquarters of the Association, the new directive was constituted by: Philippe Vergnes, President; Valerie Baup, Secretary and Bernard Bamouneda,Treasurer and Georges Courtes, Georges Esteve, Jean-Jacques Lascombres; Philippe Him Gal, José - Louis Pereira and Robert Perrussan as permanent members.

Created on July 1974 on the initiative of the representatives of the above mentioned three thermal stations then existing in Gers: Aurensan-Barbosan, Les Thermes and Castéra-Verduzan, the first president was Jean–Jacques Torlasco. After the closing of the thermal station of Aurensan, in 2002 Lectoure incorporated, being definitively integrated by the current thermal villages.

TRIANGLE OF THE WATER

The Thermal and Climatic Association of Gers promotes the recreational and therapeutic thermalism of the “Triangle of the Water”, denomination by which the thermal stations of Les-Thermes Mutters, Castéra–Verduzan and Lectoure is known.

The development of the binomial tourism-thermalism of Gers in Gascuña is on the increase. The thermal stations of Barbotán-LesThermes, Castéra-Verduzan and Lectoure received a total of 16 thousand curistas in the year 2006. This supposes a business volume of 14 million Euros due to overnight stays. That is to say, 10% of the provincial tourist billing.

The thermalism is very well defined. It is considered that the middle age people, following a thermal cure by means of a medical recipe and financed by the Social Security oscillates between 55 and 65 years ,while the average age of people opting to “get fit”, is 43 years.

The thermal treatments being applied in these spas are designed in function of the chemical characteristics and the therapeutic power of their mineral waters.

The vegetable MUDS and minerals of Barbotan-LesThermes comes from a natural peat unique in Europe. The thermal waters and peats produce a relaxing mud therapeutically recommended for those people suffering from phlebitis problems and rheumatism. The SPA of Lectoure, one of the oldest cities in the Department of the Gers, receives people suffering from osteoarticular disorders The sulphurated water, chlorined and sodium and 42ºC. is beneficial for the patients suffering from rheumatic pathologies.

Regarding Castéra-Verduzán, the thermal station is a reference for the dental crenotherapy. The thermal establishment of the XVIII century, recently remodeled, has a service of buccal balneotherapy. The water, rich in minerals, sulphates and magnesium, it is indicated therapeutically for the buco-lingual mucous diseases and parodontopatías. Diseases of the digestive system and metabolic.
The playful thermalism is a facet considered by the three spas that have incorporated services of SPA for the relaxing and get fit, keeping in mind the growing interest to enjoy the thermal water from its more playful facet.
