Proposal of study on the microalgae of the
Thermal  Baths of Concordia, for their use in Cosmetic.
The use of the cellular properties of the microalgas in the future development
of thermal products for application in Cosmetic, has been one of the proposals
to study presented in el I Ibero-American Symposium of Thermalism, that took
place in the village entrerriana of Concordia.
The preparation and promotion of the resources of thermal activity in Argentina
were the main aims of the scientific event, favoured by the Secretary of Tourism
and Sports of the Nation and the Latin American Federation of Thermalism (FLT)
in which participate outstanding specialists of Cuba, Spain, Portugal, Brazil
and Uruguay.
 The
Secretary of Tourism of the Municipality of Concordia and EMCONTUR, entity mixed
concordiense of Tourism, promoted and they organized this important
iberoamerican meeting, where it was showed the necessity to articulate the
mechanisms addecuates to make viable the use of the thermal waters from
therapeutic aims to tourist and industrial positions.
In this sense is important to highlight the existing interest among the
thermal waters specialists of this area, to carry out an investigation study in
the microalgas and their possible application in Cosmetic, starting from the
technical report that Cuban specialists carried out in the thermal baths of
Concordia.
As it comes off from the analytic study of the water properties, although is
low in mineralización (prevailing the sodium bicarbonate ), the water has a
high content of microalgas, being recommended their use in cosmetic and
dermocosmetic. Besides, they are sedative of the nervous system and can be
applied in estrés conditions.
CUBAN REPORT
Cuban specialists carried out in october 2000 period, a first téchnic
evaluation on the thermal resources of the Terma Vertiente de la Concord. As it
comes off from the analytic sampling, the thermal well and the pools of the
instalación constitute a very important source due to the microalgas abundance,
in equivalent quantity of 52.5 x 106 cel/L. This report points out that "this
constitutes practically a broth of microalgas cultivation that can be used for
the elaboration of cosmetic and dermocosmétics products, as well as an addition
to the peloides in order to improve and to enrich theirs properties."
According to experts "they would be used in facilities and treatments of
Balneocosmétic, as prophylaxis for the skin flexibility." The report proposed
a new specific thermal product for this Terma consisting of several programs of
facilities and treatments of Tourism of health, of Quality and Well-being , as
well as, Aesthetics and Beauty with the complementary use of the peloides from
Santiago de Estero or from other place of the country, already studied.
In opinion of the cuban specialists "There is not a thermal product
combining the therapy of the existing mineral-medicinales waters, the Mudtherapy
(that should be added) and the Thermal Rehabilitation, as the quickest and
effective way in order to obtain social achievements and a bigger economic
effectiveness from the existing or in project trhermal facilities.
Regarding to results been obtained on the microalgas, that is to say, the
groups and the dominant species, as well as, the certain cellular concentration,
the report remembers "they allow its employment in diverse forms elaborated or
not elaborated in the existing installation or in future projects. From the
point of view of their practical use, a cellular concentration of microalgas in
the waters, equivalent to 1.0 x 104 cel/L, is considered as acceptable minimum
value"
"The real values obtained in the present study surpass these quantities
amply."
It should be point out that "these substances act as natural anti-oxidizing,
immunologic, photoprotectors, antibiotic, moisturizers and dermatológics, among
others. For this reason the mineral waters of the Terma Vertiente de la
Concordia constitute a very important source of microalgas that can be used,
after a technological process of lyophilization, in the elaboration of products,
to use in pools, bathtubs or in the peloides enrichment.
Finally, for the Cuban experts the most probable indications for these
products elaborated with microalgas are:
- In therapheutic. - In the inflammatory lesions caused by burn, allowing to
the skin a bigger resistance and a healing and sensibility of more quality.
They have also been applied in ulcerations. As vitamin B producers, act in
affections osteomioarticulares.
- In the cosmetic. - They constitute an important help in the prevention of
the skin aging (Clement, 1967, Durand-Chastel, 1993, Bulik, 1993), they
attribute to the Cyanobacterias a protecting action to their agents anti-oxidizing.
SPECIALIZED INDUSTRY
The Cuban specialists carried out a second technical report on July of 2001,
where they expressed their opinions about the microalgas presence and the
possibility of elaboration of cosmetic, dermocosmétics and parafarmacéutics
produtcs "according to the presence of considerable concentrations of
microalgas of the type Cyanobacterias (52.5 x 106 cel/L), considered as a
cultivation, this group that resists bigger environmental tensions such as: high
temperatures, PH changes and high concentrations of sulfur, it is able to adapt
their metabolism, producing bioactive sustances as proteins, lipids,
carbohydrates and vitamins, among others."
