Therapeutic Program with waters and thermal
muds from the Volcáno Copahue to treat the Psoriasis.
Geologists and specialists in thermal dermatology, coincide in affirming that
the waters and thermal muds emanating from the Volcano Copahue, favors the
treatments of the skin illnesses. The Foundation Patagonia Termal, aware of the
good properties of the  Thermal Baths and the microclimate of the area, is
promoting an international therapeutic program and other complementary
activities of health, for patients with Psoriasis.
 The
complex of waters, algae and thermal muds of Copahue, in the county of Neuquén,
República Argentina, is a place where is the bigger affluence of geothermal
liquids coming from the Volcano Copahue and distributed through pipes under the
streets, the vapors get a permanent microclimate of about 12 degrees, in an
unique system in the world designed by geologists and specialists.
Program promoted by the Foundation Patagonia Termal, is part of the project
of improvements in the facilities of the thermal Baths and as complement to the
treatment of illnesses like the Psoriasis, acne and artrosis. The plan also
contemplates the treatmen denominated preventive and its beginning coincided
with the thermal season.
The design of this Program is based in the development of each one of the
baths and thermal treatments that make of this place, a reference center for
patients affected by different pathologies of the skin.
According to their promoters, professionals and technicians linked to the
development of the Thermal baths of Copahue, the Foundation Patagonia Termal has
as objective "the promotion and the development of the termalism, in the
medical aspects, scientific, social, cultural, educational, tourist, economic
and organizational".
THE HEALING POWER
 The
termalism is a complementary therapeutic modality without toxicity thence the
healing power of the sulfurous waters, the vapors and muds of Copahue are used
to improve the health.
Keeping in mind the strategic place of the area, the therapeutic benefits of
the mineromedicinales waters they have the added value of the environmental,
geographical and meteorological factors with a powerfull influence in the
patient's psychic condition, stimulating their answer capacity to a certain
treatment.
Without forgetting that the lagoons located in the hillsides of the Volcán
Copahue as well as their thermal, sulfurous and ferruginous waters, captured
from surgent lagoons prevén an astonishing diversity of properties,
temperatures and composition that it favors the treatment of the affections of
the skin.
The Sociedad Argentina of Dermatology in its last meeting of Consent on the
treatments of Psoriasis, included the Thermalism in the official list of
therapeutic complements.

experiences in the Dead Sea, thermal baths of Germany, Italy and France.
According to the Dr. Javier Ubogui, founder the Service of Dermatology of the
Thermal baths of Cohapue, the therapeutic effectiveness in patients that
followed treatment with the waters and muds coming from the Volcano, is picked
up in publications to those that you can consent through the international
scientific magazines "Argentinean Files of Dermatology "1991; 41:25-39 and
"you File of Dermatology" 1998; 134;1411-1412.
 "With
more than twelve years of experience - he/she adds - we have been able to
optimize the use of this resource, by means of the possibility of supplementing
the traditional medical treatments ?tópicos and fototerapia - with thermal
products - mires and algae - natural and not toxic."
In this sense and according to their experience, other uses of the thermal
products or medicinal mineral in Dermatology, important benefits can be obtained
in the treatment of the Psoriasis, eczemas, Acne, eccemátides, Rosy,
piodermitis (infections of the Skin), dermatoficias (micosis) and in the cure of
wounded (húlceras)
Nevertheless that in isolated cases "it has been observed improvements or
reliefs using the thermal hydrotherapy in cases of vulgar Ictiosis, prurituses
inespecíficos, Illness of Dhuring, ectoparasitosis, Epidermolisis to blister,
vulgar pénfigo, among other, without seeking for it to propose this treatment,
until not having better evidences."
Finally, he point out that the thermal products used either separately,
combined to each other and integrated or not in their natural environment, they
produce an specific natural effect: therapeutic, complementary and not toxic.

THERMAL DOCUMENTATION
Water of the Volcano: - Is originates in the
existent lagoon in the crater of the volcano Copahue. Their waters, coming from
rains and snowy, they are heated by the volcanic gases that ascend for the
cracks of the chimney of the crater, being loaded at the same time of mineral
substances.
Hipotermal, sour, sulphating, aluminosa, ferruginous, complex for free acids,
sulfurous , weak sulfhidrica, of very strong mineralizacion.
For the high acidity (ph smaller tham 1), and the high contents of anions
sulfate that it possesses, are possible to infer that the water of the volcano
corresponds to an HSO solution 0,47 N (aprox. N/2).
It contains high quantity of elementary sulphur in suspension in monoclinic.
microcrystals.
MUDS OF COPAHUE
Hot: Mud Gray: it forms the muddy floor of the
Laguna Sulfurosa.
Mud Gray Lead: we found it in the bottom of the
Laguna del Chancho.
Mud Gray Dark: acid mud from Laguna Verde
Laguna del Chancho: considered the best bath of
Copahue, combines hydrotherapy technics (20 ' of immersion) with the
fangotherapy (personal application) and the exhibition in the sun. Composed by
sulphated waters and organic acnes highly mineralized with biological activity.
Their temperature varies according to the climate between the 30 and 33 oC. PH
2,5. You prevé a future system of warm-up of the water and roofed of the lagoon
to take advantage of it in windy days and colds.
Laguna Verde: originated by the accumulation of
superficial waters over thermal manifestations (smokers) that cause its
temperature and mineralización. This mean allows the development of thermofils
algae, responsible for its color and properties.
Vapors: there are natural manifestations of
vapors that are used with good results in the asthma treatment, allergies and in
general in illnesses of the breathing roads.
Indications: Fundamentally in dermatológic
illnesses (acné - psoriasis). As physical therapy relaxing and antiestrés. The
waters of this lagoon are of sour reaction (PH 2,5) and their temperature is
around 25 oC.
